Warriors (14-21) @ Hornets 1/5/11, last game of the 5 game road trip.

Talking Points (with gumbyorpokey back on the recap and these notes, you don't need to read anything unless I link to it)

• Warriors were down 11 at half looking like they were limping home on the last game of a 5 game road trip.
• Remember when the Hornets started off 11-1?  They're still 21-15 so this was a big road win.
• Biedrins was back after missing 9 games with an ankle. He played sparingly, 13 minutes total leading to a -14 plus/minus.
• This was the first game that all Warriors were healthy in the last 202 games. Amazing stat.....and time to fire the training staff.
• Warriors won the turnover battle commiting a season low 8 of them.
• Warriors were down by 10 starting the 4th quarter and tied the game in just 3 minutes.
• Warriors built a 10 point 4th quarter lead only to choke it away until Udoh's shake n' bake, Lee's cold blooded jumper, and free throw shooting got them the win.
• Warriors got to the line 32 times!  But they still lost the FT battle 32-33.
• Curry & Ellis scored a combined 50 points this game.
• They are saying this was Epke Udoh's coming out party.  He's a quick leaper and was +17.  He scored 6 points on a follow up tip in, his first dunk of the season after a great Monta dish, and the Scola-esq shake n' bake of David West.
• Amundson pulled down 12 boards but is shooting a pathetic 30.8% from Free Throw.
• Next game:  @ rOracle Friday 1/7 vs. Cavs.  Finally home where they play 14 of the next 16 in Oakland.

Talking Points (so you don't have to get home early from work to watch this game):

• The Warriors were up 53-44 at halftime.
• The Warriors lost 18 to 35 in the 3rd Quarter and lost 19 to 31 in the 4th.
• Hubie Brown always says that good teams win the 3rd Quarter.
• This is the second game in a row that the Warriors rapidly gave away a halftime lead.
• David Lee DNP because of a bruised tailbone.
• Lin is back from the D-League.  Lin and Law will get guaranteed contracts for this season but Carney will not.  Carney is rumored to be cut soon.
• Ellis was -24 this game in 38.8 minutes.  Radmanovic was best on the team at -1 in 23 minutes.
• Some have said that the Warriors need to scrimmage at halftime so that they don't have a chance to rest.
• Next game:  1/5/11 at 5:00 PT @ Hornets.  There's a rumor that Larry Ellison is going to buy the Hornets and move them to San Jose.  That would be awesome.

Talkings Points (now there's no need to read Rusty Simmon on SFGate.com)

• Warriors hand the Bobcats their first loss....under new coach Paul Silas who is now 2-1.
• This game was noon PT.  They wanted to give the Warriors time to party on New Years Eve.
• They also wanted to Warriors to play hung-over scheduling a game on New Years Day vs. The Heat.
• The Warriors also played on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  This is only the 4th time in NBA History that a team has played on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day AND New Years Eve/New Years Day.
• The Warriors started off hot with a double digit lead in the 1st quarter.
• Stephen Jackson misses a shot at the buzzer which would have won the game. He no longer makes love to pressure.
• Stephen Curry is from Charlotte, NC and went to Davidson which is in Charlotte.  He had a lot to do in his short time home and many Davidson fans came out to the game to support Steph.
• Monta was clutch in the last few minutes making a tough leaner after a Warrior shooting drought and a sweet spin move. But then he fouled his defender off the ball with 8.5 seconds left giving Stack Jack a shot at the win.
• Curry's shot looked great tonight hitting 4 of 5 from three.
• Udoh got more burn with 17:32 played than Amundson with 14:10.  Curiously, Radmanovic played 32:16.  Possibly because he once played for Charlotte?
• Warriors got to the line 16 times making 10.  Bobcats got the the line 28 times making 20.  -12 on the Free Throw comparison.

Monta Ellis' New Shot

The Warriors blew out The Clippers by 40 points in hot pre-seaon NBA action last Friday.  After their win on Monday 10/11, the Dubs sit at 2-0 in the season before the real season.  Across the bay in San Francisco, the 49ers went 4-0 in pre-season and have yet to win a real game now sitting at 0-5.  So obviously lame pre-records don't mean anything (so why do they even keep them?)

One has to have an eye for detail to learn something during pre-season games.  And one thing I've picked up so far is Monta's new Judo Kick Jumper.  The flying right leg creates space from taller defenders and presents a potential to pick up a shooting foul.  Ryan Gomes had no chance defending Monta's Judo Kick J in last Friday's Clip destruction.

Warrior Open Practice 2010

Things are happy in Warrior land.  I've read few "experts" predict 49 and 50 wins for the Dubs this year.  I've also read a few who said 19 to 25 wins but I don't listen to those guys.  A new owner, a new coach, and a rebuilt roster have put smiles on people's pre-season faces.  Can't you just feel the good karma in the air?

The annual rookie right of passage took place after open practice last night.  Warrior Rookies had to dance the Dougie, sing happy birthday to Brandan Wright, and were presented with their season backpacks and lunchboxes as apart of the hazing ritual for first years.  Enjoy the video below:



A few other things I'm digging from the Open Practice. 1) I like how Monta is MC'ing the rookie hazing. That shows some leadership. 2) David Lee totally doesn't want to be there. 3) Curry was too busy to participate because he was signing autographs. 4) Reggie Williams is still considered a rookie?

Monta & Steph: Best Friends!

You know the whole "best friend" meme in commercials these days? How one type of animal or person who couldn't possibly get along with another type of animal or person suddenly become hilarious pals because of the product that's being advertised? Well I'm writing here to predict that what we will see NEXT in Golden State Warrior Country is a successful union of Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry. Who woulda thunk it.

After the media day fiasco of last year's preseason where Monta said that him and Steph could never play on the floor together (which was prompted, I might add, by Stephen Jackson's ire toward the organization on a impressionable Monta) it sounds like Mr. Ellis has grown the fcuk up a bit. As a Dubs fan, I say with a big guttoral sigh "fiiinallly" even though it's probably not smart to believe it until I see it.

"A month before the season was over with, I really had to sit back and blame myself in a sense because I'm that leader; I'm that one who everybody feeds off of," Ellis said. "Everything that went on last year (regarding Curry) shouldn't have gone on. I blame myself."

Fact: Monta has come to the Bay Area earlier in the offseason than any year prior

Fact: Monta is married to a hottie but I will neither confirm or deny the pics I've seen online

Fact: Monta has a 15 month old son

Fact: Monta no longer has moped infatuation

Warriors vs. Raptors 4/4/10

Hurray! Don Nelson finally wins his 7,854th game (an educated guess) and is now thisclose to retiring to his couch of perpetual indulgence.........which we all know is located in Maui. Maybe he can take some dance lessons while he's there (watch the last part of the video to know just what the heck I'm talking about). Hula possibly?



Can you believe that the Raptors might make the 8th spot in the the Eastern Conference Playoffs with ole' defense like that? They can probably just put Hedo on LeBron and do fine. After a first round sweep they'll lose their best player ever (so far) as Bosh departs to join Carlos Arroyo in Miami. I feel sorry for the Raps fans as we all know how ravenous they are. Roar. The crowds at American Airlines Arena remind me of rOracle. Props to Toronto-area Canadians (and screw the ones from Montreal).

Steph Curry continues to play like a P-I-M-P with 29 points on 23 shots and 12 helpers. It was also good to see Anthony Morrow rise from the dead and contribute splashing 5 of 7 threes. That kid has some serious touch and (now I get to use my favorite erotic basketball saying of all time) was tickling the nylon all game long. Maggette pulled a Magette by going 10/12 from the line and even a Turiaf dumbass turnover couldn't prevent this record-tying win.

Where is Monta you ask? He's been suffering from flu-like symptoms since March 22nd which either means that he has one intense hangover or there's something seriously wrong with him. Word on the street is that he'll miss this last 4 game roadtrip and is probably done for the season. If this is Monta bitching out on the end of the season, seriously, eff that kid. I'm over his ball-hogging ways. But if he's really sick and they can't figure out what's wrong, godspeed Mississippi Bullet. I'll let you know my offical end of season stance on Monta as more info becomes available.........which means I'm off to read Tim Kawakami's blog. Peace out, Nextians.

Warriors vs. Lakers 3/15/10

Let's face it: Steph Curry is the man. Our now fearless Rookie took it as hard as he could at the Defending Champ Lakers and pushed the frentic Warriors style of "no rebounding but let's get some steals and run!" to the extreme. And it almost worked...



I know that Monta was ice-cold this game from the field. But does he really need to keep jacking up jumpers all game long (5/23)? I didn't mind the one he finally hit in transition at the end of the game, but I'm beginning to think that Monta just won't learn the game of basketball. Would trading him for Thabeet and Mayo have been a good call? Games like this make me think so.

But lets get back to praising Step. This is what the Laker's blog Silver Screen and Roll had to say about him:

"Stephen Curry is a rock star. I'm not sure I really understood that before tonight's game, a frantic and garbled 124 to 121 Lakers win over the Golden State Warriors, but I do now, and I apologize to him for being late to the party. The kid has an amazing suite of basketball skills, and I fully expect him to torture the Lakers throughout the coming decade.

Tonight he came achingly close to powering the Dubs to an upset. Curry scored 29 points on 73% True Shooting and distributed nine assists, delicious numbers even in a 100-possession NBA Jam game. No one on the Lakers could guard him. Not Shannon Brown, and most certainly not Derek Fisher. Despite running the offense on almost every possession he was on the floor, Curry committed zero turnovers. With three seconds left and Golden State down only three, he danced away from Fish for a clean look from 26 feet that was perfectly on line but just a touch long. The Lakers were lucky to survive the rook's magnificent performance."

People are loving this kid!

Lastly, Kobe Bryant continues to show his bitch side with this quote after the game on National TV (ESPN):

“You’re not going to see anything remotely close to this in the playoffs,” he said. “Not even close. There’s nothing you can gauge in this game. You just get out of here with a win and move on.”

I know that he's right but he's just such a bitch. Man, I love to hate this guy!

Warriors vs. Mavs: 2/8/10 orangino edit

Ever since the We Believe Team "shocked the world" in the 2007 playoffs (playoffs?) the Dubs/Mavs rivalry has brought out some well played and entertaining basketall. Though the Warriors have fewer guys from 2007 on the current roster than the Mavericks (I miss Jazzy Cabbages), the effort that only a rivalry can bring was there last night. For 41 minutes of this game, the Dubs were the better team. Their lead hovered between 6 and 13 points all game as Morrow was splashing tres, Curry was dishing and hitting, and Monta was having a typical Monta-like game. After a 98-90 3rd quarter lead, the Warriors became, well, The 2010 Warriors.

JET Terry went off for 36 points with 6 Tres, 6 Boardbounds, 9 Helpers and 3 Swipe-a-roo's. With Dirka not playing a great game, Terry's effort led the Mavs' charge. I could have predicted this effort as the day before the Mavericks practiced at The Olympic Club, where I am a member. As they were walking down the hall towards the gym I overheard Terry talking to rookie Rodrigue Boubois saying "man, I'm playing better than I ever have before in my career". I then said "Hey JET!" as he walked by and he responded "hello, Sir." I couldn't quite figure out if he was mocking me or if he could really tell that I was that older than him (by 2.5 months). Regardless, it was obvious that JET was feeling good and playing well.

Hookers N' Cheese and The Fog Raw then went to the game. Face? Maybe not. It was a pretty "great time out" until those last 7 minutes. Monta hurt his knee, The Mavs played to their potential, and Don Nelson crapped the bed. Henceforth/therefore, the Mavs win 127-117.

Warriors at Dallas: 2.3.10 oragino edit

Monta puts up a carrier high 46 on 19 shots. He also goes 4/5 from three. He hits a behind the backboard AND 1 swish that was twice as cool as Kobe's. Whoa Boy!

An inspired comeback by the Dubs who got within 3 in the 4th quarter. But when you have CJ Watson trying to make things happen in the half court set and Devin George's carcass playing crunch time minutes, you're just not going to have a chance vs. The Mavs and their balanced attack. The losing streak continues!

Warriors vs. Hornets: 11/27/10 orangino edit

I watched this game last night on DVR and just skipped the entire 4th Quarter (although I did make sure that the Warriors didn't somehow come back by FF'ding to the last 4 minutes). The Dubs were down 27 at one point in the 3rd after a 7 point halftime deficit. Barf in mouth gross.

The first quarter was a lot of fun with Monta racking up the assists and not shooting. It was good to see Beans put together some decent moves and actually catch some passes that were thrown to him. I swear, some assistant coach just needs to rifle basketballs at this guy in practice from 20 feet away screaming "if it hit's your hands, you catch it!!" Shit, the Warriors were actually shooting like 56% at halftime! (a guess.........there's no way I'm researching that)

But then the effort died. Mix that in with a little bit of CP-3 doing his thang on a Hornets team that has been playing really well and you have a serious ass kicking of the Dubs. Congrats to the Hornets for hanging around and playing like some sort of cost effective version of their former 59 win selves. I thought that there was the potential for them to drift away with all of their issues earlier this year. But CP-3 is magic. New Orleans fans should count their blessings.........or whatever their vodoo religion tells them to count.

Warriors Host Bucks; 11/15/10 Edition

The Dubs really looked fatigued in this game. They built a decent second quarter lead only to let it slip away to The Brandon Jenningsis, I mean, The Bucks. The game was closer than the score because, as you will see at the end of the video, Steph Curry fouled out. But there wasn't anyone on the bench available so The Bucks got a technical free throw and two more. A 15 man roster down to 4 guys? How does this happen? Check the orangino edit and you will see. There are many reasons why The Warriors, on a huge homestand, are tired. Even Monta looks tired!

Be sure to peep Monta's incredible 1st Quarter sickness 360 reverse layup with the left hand that split Bogut and Ilyasova. Also enjoy Stephs steal barrage in the 3rd Quarter where he was owning The One, The Only, Brandon "Kid N' Play" Jennings (who isn't shooting as well he started: PEEP THIS to see inside the numbers).

12/3/09 Rockets @ Warriors Pictures

Just a few quick notes from tonights disappointing home loss vs. the Rockets. Man, did the Dubs choke that game away.


First of all, Scola's eye injury a few nights ago have prompted him to wear the Amare Special Oakley Blades. It looks like Scola went for the clear lense approach as compared to the tinted lense that Amare rocks.

This full body photo of Monta in his throwback "San Francisco" uni gives us a fantastic glimpse of his shitty tats. Oh how I thirst for the pre-tat Monta who was so innocent.........and so much quicker.

Many of the thousands of Nextians who read this blog probably enjoyed my "Darko Has Anger Issues" post from a few days back. Well, Mr. Milicic's game worn, ripped jersey is now up for auction at the NBA's charity site. Holy Crap!!

Currently the high bid sits at $606. If there's a more frivilous spending of greenbacks out there (aside from bailing out GM) I haven't seen it. But I am -thisclose- to saying "fcuk it" and throw down the credit card to help the needy kids of St. Jude Hospital. Dang, this would really make my life complete. Well, nearly complete. When Monta finally returns to the Dubs things would be more complete-er.
